Private Tour of a Luxury Custom Home in Charlotte
Visit Active Construction or a Recently Completed Estate by Appointment
There is a hard limit to what a website can show you about a builder. Photographs flatten depth, video compresses scale, and even the most carefully staged image cannot communicate the sound of a closing door, the weight of cabinetry hardware, the way light falls through a window at four in the afternoon. The only way to evaluate a builder properly is to walk through their work in person.
Peters Custom Homes hosts private tours for serious families who are evaluating a custom home commission. Tours are not open houses, marketing events, or sales pushes. They are quiet, scheduled walkthroughs of either an active construction site or a recently completed residence whose owners have given permission for the visit.
This page explains how the tour works, what you should look for during it, and how to schedule one.
Our Approach
Active construction tours are the more revealing of the two formats. You see the framing accuracy, the squareness of corners, the cleanliness of the site, the staging of materials, the protection of in-place finishes, and the discipline of the trades. A messy job site is the leading indicator of a sloppy finished home — and you cannot fake a clean job site for a one-time visit.
Completed-home tours show you the resolved outcome. Trim transitions, paint reveals, hardware alignment, fixture installation, cabinetry symmetry, plumbing trim, lighting effect, and the dozens of small details where craftsmanship lives or dies. Bring a tape measure if you want — we will not be offended if you measure a reveal.
Most tours combine both: 45 minutes at an active site, then 60 minutes at a completed residence. The contrast between the two clarifies how careful work in framing produces effortless-looking results in finish.
Design Collaboration
When possible, the homeowner of a completed residence joins the tour for 15–20 minutes to share their unfiltered experience. This is the honest answer to the question "what was it actually like to build with them" — and it is the answer no marketing material can provide.
Nicholas Peters personally hosts every tour. You will not be handed off to a sales associate. The conversation is direct, candid, and tailored to your project — not a scripted walkthrough of features.
Active-site tours include introductions to the project manager and lead trades on shift. You see how Nicholas interacts with the team, how the team interacts with the work, and whether the firm operates the way the website implies.
Construction & Craftsmanship
Scheduling a tour is by request only. We do not host walk-up visits or open houses, partly out of respect for the homeowners hosting the completed residences and partly because the format only works as a structured 90-minute conversation.
We typically schedule tours within 1–2 weeks of request, depending on which projects are at compatible stages. We will tell you in advance which residences and which neighborhoods you will visit so you can confirm the geography fits your search.
There is no obligation associated with a tour. Many of the families we tour ultimately do not build with us — they choose another builder, defer the project, or buy existing instead. That is a fine outcome, and it does not affect our willingness to host the visit.
Living the Result
The single best preparation for a tour is to have already toured at least two other builders' work. Comparison is what makes a tour useful. Walking only one builder's project gives you no calibration; walking three gives you the vocabulary to recognize what you are seeing.
Bring whoever will be making the build decision with you — your spouse, your designer, your realtor if they are part of your inner circle. Tours are most useful as a shared experience that grounds subsequent conversations in concrete reference points.
