Private Design Studio Tour for Charlotte Custom Homes
What Happens at a Discovery-Phase Studio Visit With the Founder, the Architect, and the Interior Architecture Lead
Most luxury builders offer model-home tours. We do not, because a model home is a marketing exercise — it is staged, decorated for resale, and built to a generic program. Touring it tells you nothing useful about whether you should build with the firm.
What we offer instead is a private design studio tour: a 90-minute, by-appointment visit to our Charlotte studio where families meet the founder, review original architectural drawings from past Peters projects, walk through the selections process with the lead designer at Emerald & Oak, and ask the questions that determine whether we are the right firm for their build.
This page explains exactly what the studio tour includes, who is in the room, and how families typically use the visit to make the engage / not engage decision.
Our Approach
The studio visit opens with a 30-minute conversation with Nicholas Peters about your vision, your timeline, your lot (if you have one), and the questions you most need answered before engaging a builder. This is not a sales meeting — there is no pitch deck and no asking for a contract. The conversation determines whether the firm is a fit, both directions.
The next 30 minutes is a portfolio walk-through using original architectural drawings, material samples from completed homes, and photo albums organized by project. Families see how a Peters home gets designed, specified, and built across the major finish categories — not in marketing renderings, but in the actual construction documents and selections binders we delivered to clients.
The final 30 minutes is a working session with Miriam Peters, the founder of Emerald & Oak Design Studio (our integrated interior architecture partner). She walks through the selections process, the binder system, the trade-vendor relationships, and the kinds of design vocabularies the studio works in. Families leave with a clear picture of what the design experience looks like month by month.
Design Collaboration
Families typically bring three things to the studio: photos or links to homes they admire, a rough program (number of bedrooms, key features, lot information if they have it), and a list of questions they have not been able to get straight answers to from other builders. We answer the questions directly. Pricing ranges, timelines, contract structure, change-order policy, warranty — all on the table.
We provide tea, coffee, and water. The studio is comfortable and quiet — no production-builder showroom theatrics. Most visits run slightly long because families want to see one more drawing or ask one more question, and we do not rush.
Spouses, partners, and adult children involved in the decision are welcome and encouraged to attend. We have learned that the strongest projects are the ones where everyone in the household is aligned from the first conversation.
Construction & Craftsmanship
After the visit, we send a brief written summary with: a recap of what we discussed, suggested next steps based on your situation, and a clear answer to whether we believe Peters Custom Homes is a fit for your project. If we are not the right fit (timeline mismatch, geographic mismatch, scope mismatch), we say so directly and recommend alternatives where appropriate.
If the studio visit produces mutual interest, the next step is typically either a lot evaluation (if you are still selecting a property) or a discovery design session (if your lot and program are settled). We do not pressure for engagement at the studio visit itself; the right decision needs more time than 90 minutes.
Studio visits are scheduled Tuesday through Friday, with Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning being our most common availability. Saturday visits are occasionally possible for out-of-town families.
Living the Result
If you are early in the consideration process and want to evaluate Peters Custom Homes against other builders without committing to anything, the private studio tour is the right entry point. You will meet the founder, see real work, and ask hard questions in a setting designed for that conversation.
Reach out to schedule. We typically book studio visits 7-14 days out and limit them to one per available afternoon to ensure the conversation is focused.
