N Baltusrol is a comprehensive ground-up renovation that transformed an existing residence into a refined modern transitional estate defined by light, proportion, and material clarity. The project reimagines the home as an open, contemporary environment where architecture, interior design, and outdoor living are seamlessly integrated.
Originally built with a more traditional interior layout, the residence underwent a full structural and architectural reconfiguration. Walls were removed, ceiling volumes reshaped, and circulation patterns redesigned to create a cohesive open plan centered around a dramatic social core. The result is a home that feels expansive, luminous, and highly livable while still maintaining a sense of warmth and intimacy.
Throughout the renovation, the design team emphasized a restrained palette of soft whites, warm natural wood tones, sculptural lighting, and layered stone surfaces. These materials create visual contrast while reinforcing a calm and cohesive architectural language. The home now balances crisp contemporary detailing with welcoming textures, producing spaces that feel both polished and comfortable for everyday living.

Design Intent & Whole-Home Transformation
The architectural vision for N Baltusrol centered on transforming a previously compartmentalized residence into a light-filled modern environment where rooms flow naturally into one another. The renovation introduced larger openings, improved sightlines, and a reorganization of the main living spaces around a central kitchen and dining sequence.
Ceiling planes were simplified to create stronger horizontal lines and visual continuity across the main level. Carefully framed views extend from the entry through the living spaces toward the rear terrace, establishing a strong connection between interior architecture and the surrounding landscape.
Large expanses of glass and direct access to covered outdoor living areas allow the home to function as a cohesive indoor-outdoor environment. Outdoor spaces were designed not as separate amenities but as architectural extensions of the main living areas.
Interior Architecture & Living Spaces
The great room serves as the architectural anchor of the home. A contemporary fireplace wall finished in large-format tile establishes a strong focal point, framed by floating walnut cabinetry and carefully curated furnishings. Sculptural lighting and layered seating areas create a space equally suited for relaxed family living and entertaining.
Adjacent to the living area, the kitchen was completely redesigned to function as the social heart of the home. The large island provides generous seating while integrating storage and preparation space. White cabinetry and polished stone surfaces are balanced by rich wood accents and refined metal fixtures, producing a kitchen that feels both modern and inviting.
The dining room continues this material story with deep-toned built-in cabinetry, warm wood surfaces, and statement lighting that introduces sculptural form into the space. Carefully placed windows and glass doors bring natural light deep into the home while maintaining a sense of symmetry and balance.
The entry sequence sets the tone for the residence through bold contemporary lighting, curated furnishings, and gallery-like wall planes that highlight the architecture itself.
In the primary suite, the bathroom introduces a quieter, spa-like mood. Dark herringbone tile, frameless glass enclosures, and minimalist fixtures create a striking contrast against the home's otherwise bright palette, emphasizing texture, geometry, and proportion.
Material Integrity & Artisan Execution
Material selections throughout the renovation emphasize durability, texture, and refined contrast. Polished stone surfaces are paired with matte tile, natural wood cabinetry, and finely detailed metalwork to create a layered but restrained palette.
Custom cabinetry and built-in elements were fabricated specifically for the home, allowing millwork lines to remain continuous across open spaces. Attention to trim alignment, joinery, and edge detailing reinforces the home's architectural precision.
Stone surfaces and tile installations were selected not only for aesthetic impact but also for long-term performance, ensuring that the home remains both visually compelling and highly functional for everyday family life.
Outdoor Living & Covered Terrace
Outdoor living is centered around a covered terrace designed to function as an additional living room for the home. A plastered fireplace feature wall, suspended lounge seating, and comfortable gathering areas create a setting that encourages year-round use.
The terrace incorporates warm wood ceiling detailing and contemporary lighting, extending the interior design language outward. Direct access from the main living spaces allows gatherings to flow naturally between indoor and outdoor environments.
The one-acre property provides a private setting that complements the architecture while offering space for landscape maturity and future outdoor amenities.
A Modern Family Home Reimagined
Following its complete transformation, N Baltusrol now functions as a highly livable modern residence where daily routines and entertaining coexist seamlessly.
The home is defined by its social core—kitchen, dining, and living spaces that remain visually connected while supporting distinct functions. Light, material contrast, and architectural clarity shape each space, creating an environment that feels calm, intentional, and welcoming.
As the landscape continues to mature and the home evolves with its owners, N Baltusrol stands as a thoughtful example of how a comprehensive renovation can elevate an existing structure into a timeless contemporary estate.
