COLLABORATOR PROFILE — LUXURY INTERIOR DESIGN
Interior architecture, coordinated from the first framing drawing
Emerald & Oak Design is a Charlotte luxury interior design firm known for layered materials, timeless compositions, and highly refined living environments. On projects where a homeowner elects to engage them, their design direction is coordinated with construction from the earliest drawings rather than applied after the fact.

Why interior direction belongs in the construction schedule
Interior decisions are structural decisions. Ceiling detail, cabinetry depth, plumbing rough-in, lighting layouts, and stone thickness all have to be resolved before trades reach those areas. When interior design is engaged late, the usual outcome is rework: relocated blocking, re-cut stone, and change orders that add cost without adding quality.
Coordinating a design firm inside The Peters Method means selections carry a construction deadline attached to the trade that depends on them. Emerald & Oak Design works to those dates, so material specifications land while they are still inexpensive to implement.
How the collaboration runs on a live project
The homeowner contracts directly with Emerald & Oak Design for interior scope. Peters Custom Homes remains responsible for construction, sequencing, and site supervision, and shares the build schedule so design deliverables map to framing, rough-in, and finish milestones.
Practical coordination points include cabinetry and millwork shop drawings, tile and stone layouts, plumbing and lighting locations, paint and stain schedules, and the final punch review before completion.
Leadership and design accountability
Miriam Peters serves as Co-Owner and Design Director of Emerald & Oak Design and leads the aesthetic direction on collaborations, from material selection and finish coordination through furniture curation and art placement.
That continuity matters on estate work: one accountable design voice across a multi-year build produces a house that reads as one composition instead of a sequence of unrelated rooms.

Questions clients ask
Do I have to use Emerald & Oak Design on a Peters Custom Homes project?
No. Interior design is an elective engagement. Clients frequently arrive with their own designer, and Peters Custom Homes coordinates with whichever firm the homeowner retains.
Who do I contract with for interior design?
The homeowner contracts directly with the interior design firm. Peters Custom Homes contracts separately for construction, so scope, fees, and liability stay clearly divided between the two companies.
When should interior design start?
Before framing wherever possible. Ceiling details, cabinetry dimensions, plumbing rough-in, and lighting layouts all depend on interior decisions, so early involvement avoids change orders later.
