Renovation Inquiry

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of renovations does Peters Custom Homes take on?
We focus on estate-scale architectural transformations — whole-home renovations, additions, primary suite and kitchen reconstructions, structural reconfigurations, and exterior re-imaginings on established Charlotte residences.
How soon will I hear back after submitting a renovation inquiry?
Nicholas Peters reviews renovation inquiries personally and responds within one business day. Inquiries received over a weekend or holiday are answered the next business morning.
Is there a minimum project size for renovations?
Our renovation work generally begins around $250K and frequently exceeds $1M for whole-home transformations. Smaller cosmetic or single-room projects fall outside the scope of how we are structured to build.
What should I include in a renovation inquiry?
The property address, the year the home was built, the rooms or systems you want addressed, your approximate investment range, and photographs or existing plans if you have them. Anything you can share shortens the discovery phase.
Do I need architectural plans before we begin?
No. For most renovations we begin with a walkthrough and feasibility review, then coordinate architectural and structural drawings as part of pre-construction so scope and cost are settled before demolition.
How long does an estate renovation take?
Design and permitting typically run two to five months. Construction ranges from three to six months for a defined scope such as a kitchen or primary suite, and nine to eighteen months for whole-home transformations.
Can we live in the home during the renovation?
Sometimes. Phased renovations with contained work zones, dust control, and protected access are possible for defined scopes. Whole-home projects with structural or systems work almost always require relocating for the duration.
Is renovating better than a tear-down and rebuild?
It depends on the bones of the house, the lot, and your goals. During the first walkthrough we compare the realistic cost of renovating against a rebuild and give you an honest recommendation, even when that means a smaller project for us.
Do you handle permits, inspections, and historic review?
Yes. We manage permitting, inspections, and — where applicable in neighborhoods with historic or HOA architectural review — the submissions and approvals required before work can begin.
Are renovation inquiries kept confidential?
We treat addresses, plans, and budgets as private project information and use them as described in our Privacy Policy. Renovation projects appear publicly only with the homeowner's permission, subject to lawful recordkeeping and disclosure obligations.
